lVolunteering for Link to Hope
We are a very small team of people here at Link to Hope and we only have Wendy and Lisa as part of the office team and Sandra overseeing the shops so you can see just how important volunteering is for us.
Could you spare a few hours a week to help out in our head office.
If you are near Worthing at all then we would love to see you and if you could help for a few hours at a time that would be great. We generally appreciate all administration support offered to us. Also if you have any ideas for increasing revenue for us ie if you are an expert at E-Bay or Amazon then there is always a desk and computer free if you feel able to help us.
Generally in May/June we send out thousands of shoebox leaflets and posters so that is one of our busiest times. The other time is around September on the run up to the Shoebox Appeal. If you like data entry then we really do need help with this from Jan - Mar when all the wonderful people who gift aided their shoebox £2's have to go into a database that enables us to claim back free money.
Volunteering in one of our Link to Hope Shops around Worthing
Do you fancy giving a few hours a week helping us to prepare all the donations that we get from supporters so we can sell them in one of our 6 shops in Worthing, Goring, Broadwater, Littlehampton, Lancing and Broadwater. The tasks are various and include sorting, steaming, pricing, display, shop windows, till work and many other important roles. Volunteering in the shops is always a good way of gaining extra experience if you are out of work and we are very happy to write a reference for you after you have been with us for a period of time.
Family & Elderly Shoebox Appeal
Do you have an HGV licence, and would you be willing to help collect our Family Shoeboxes around the UK during our Shoebox Appeal in November? Or perhaps you could be an Area Collector or Group Organiser for our Family Shoebox Appeal. Whatever your ability or availability, get in touch – we want to hear from you! We are always looking for drivers for our sprinter vans that drive around the UK and also locally to go and pick up shoeboxes for us. We do so many journeys that we really need a core of 20 drivers who are available for anything from 1 day to the whole 4 weeks of the campaign to help us.
If you don't want to drive perhaps you could help us in our Shoebox Hospital. This is where we repair boxes that have come in broken, ripped or are clearly half empty. A team of around 10 people add extra items and repair the boxes so they can be sent on their way to Eastern Europe.
Do you knit, crochet or sew - always happy to receive hats, gloves, scarves, blankets and any other knitted or hand made items that we can send along with our shoeboxes to keep people warm in the extremely cold winters that they have in Eastern Europe.
Become an Area Collector or Group Organiser if you don't live near the Worthing area but want to practically help us with the Appeal. We are very grateful to hear from people that would like to join in by helping to organise the Shoebox Appeal in their area or organisation. Its not an onerous task and all you have to do is highlight the appeal to your organisation, give our the leaflets, set a date for when they all need to be in and if there are over 80 shoeboxes ring us and we will come and pick them up. To be an Area Collector then all you have to be willing to do is be willing to take in boxes from other people and store them until we come and pick them up. People will ring you and you can organise when you will be in so they aren't just dropped at your front door.
Volunteering for events
Want to do something a little bit more energetic for Link to Hope. See our events page for lots of ways you can get involved with the charity some of which involved actually going over to Eastern Europe.
