Pastor Cornel Fedor works with the poor communities of Gherla. He is very aware, looking around that many young men and women can’t get a job because they have no qualifications and no work experience. The Work Skills project that Link to Hope supports teaches them basic works skills and importantly some basic work protection to keep them safe.
Cornel has approached people he knows, to ask them if there are projects it would be possible to bring the young peoples to so they can practice their skills. We ask the owners to let them practice and the qualified workers explain to them what they are doing and how they can do it.
The work at the moment mainly in construction and they are learning to cut and join together wood and metals by welding.
“Rebeca is a girl who come from a family who cannot offer too much for her. She is 20 years old, is the oldest sister and have two other younger than she. For several months she works daily jobs in different places and in one moment she finds some work just in construction sites.
She wishes to have a job, but nobody hired her because she does not have the basic skills. She come to me and we decided to help her in this direction, to offer her a minimum training to make a minimum income to be able to live. Even she did not have any knowledge about these jobs she was able to learn and now she passes well all this time of training and work on construction sites whenever is an opportunity.
She and her family are very thankful for our help and she is a real inspiration for others in this direction.
Her father, Cyprian, who himself was able to receive from us training two years ago in construction jobs, in one day joined with us and I found a job for them and all of them worked like a team. I was really happy to see the results of our teaching in place in the same site”
“When you have a wife and 5 children, and need to provide food for the table each day you probably can never rest. Papu is a good man, 34-year-old, a hard worker man, but unfortunately, he came from an environment where none of them were encouraged to go to school and learn. He grew up illiterate, in a settlement with no electricity, no running water and where most of the peoples abuse alcohol, violence and all kind of substances who ruined the life.
One day, he came in contact with Cyprian, Rebeca’s father, one of the man who, years ago benefit by our fantastic program of education and learning skills. Somehow, he got my number and we decided together to try to help him to change his life. But in this pandemic time, we found quite difficult to add one more in our training program. Because we didn’t have any more place for him, Cyprian come with a great idea. He come to us to propose EMR to help him with what is need, and he will train Papu. So, Cyprian was able to pass on all what he learned in our training classes two years ago. Now Papu got most of the skills and in one day I spoke with a nice man and I got for them a job and a project to work for. This man, what I know him very well, payed them reasonable money and we end up our training in a great way. Both of them are so excited and thankfully for the help we offered.
With courage, determination and desire to help we told to Cyprian he will grow by multiplication. This is our strategy in this time. Exactly like the Bible, told us in 2Timothy 2 verse one and two in the spiritual way we applied in a practical and day by day situation. “You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
We thank you again Link to Hope because you are part of this projects and these lives are changed and transformed by your support. Because you powered this project and peoples return to their families with food and a job” Pastor Cornel Fedor
