Charity Shop Manager Vacancy – Worthing

Link to Hope | Full-time | 40 hours per week

Salary: Competitive, plus an annual performance-related bonus of up to £3,000

Are you a commercially driven Shop Manager who loves a challenge?

Do you thrive on achieving sales targets? Are you always looking for new ways to increase income, improve performance and get the very best out of your team?

Do you have the drive, enthusiasm and commercial instinct to turn a good charity shop into a great one?

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

We’re looking for an ambitious, results-focused Shop Manager to lead our large Worthing charity shop and help us maximise its income for the important work of Link to Hope.

This isn’t simply about keeping a shop running smoothly. We want someone who will take real ownership of its success, drive sales, spot opportunities and make things happen.

About Link to Hope

Link to Hope is an established Christian charity dedicated to rebuilding lives and communities in Eastern Europe. We support vulnerable families, children and elderly people facing poverty and hardship through practical projects that bring lasting change.

Our charity shops are a vital source of income, helping to fund this work.

Every additional sale, every successful promotion and every improvement in shop performance means more money available to help people who desperately need our support.

That’s why we’re looking for someone who understands that commercial success and charitable impact go hand in hand.

The role – take ownership and drive results

  • Our Worthing shop is one of our larger retail operations, with significant potential to generate income.
  • We’re looking for someone who sees that potential and is excited by the challenge of making the most of it.
  • As Shop Manager, you’ll be responsible for driving sales, achieving income targets, maximising profitability and continually looking for ways to improve the shop’s performance.
  • You’ll lead and support our dedicated staff and volunteers, but just as importantly, you’ll set the pace, lead by example and create a culture where everyone understands the importance of generating income.
  • We want someone who is proactive rather than reactive, who doesn’t wait to be told what needs doing and who takes genuine pride in seeing sales grow.

Your key responsibilities

Driving sales and profitability

  • Take ownership of the shop’s financial performance, consistently working to achieve and exceed weekly and annual sales targets.
  • Identify and implement new opportunities to increase sales, donations and profitability.
  • Monitor sales performance, understand what is selling and take action when targets are not being met.
  • Maximise income from donated stock through effective pricing, merchandising and stock management.
  • Develop creative promotions, displays and initiatives to attract customers and increase sales.
  • Maintain a strong commercial focus while controlling costs and minimising waste.

Leading a successful team

  • Lead, motivate and support our staff and volunteers to achieve the shop’s goals.
  • Set clear expectations and encourage a positive, productive and results-focused working environment.
  • Recruit, train and develop volunteers, helping them understand the importance of their contribution.
  • Lead by example, taking a practical, hands-on approach to all aspects of the shop.
  • Organise rotas and ensure the shop is appropriately staffed and operating efficiently.

Running an excellent retail operation

  • Ensure the shop is attractive, well stocked, organised and commercially presented at all times.
  • Oversee the sorting, pricing, rotation and presentation of donated goods.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and encourage repeat visits.
  • Build relationships with customers, donors and the local community to encourage donations and support.
  • Manage cash handling, banking, security and shop administration.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Trading Standards and other relevant requirements.
  • Actively promote Link to Hope and the charitable work supported by the shop.

What we’re looking for

We’re particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate commercial success and a proven ability to increase sales.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Proven retail management experience, preferably within charity retail or a busy retail environment.
  • A strong track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.
  • The commercial awareness to recognise opportunities, maximise revenue and improve profitability.
  • The confidence to analyse sales figures and make decisions based on performance.
  • Experience of leading, motivating and developing a successful team.
  • Excellent merchandising skills and a good understanding of pricing and stock management.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • A proactive, energetic and determined approach to achieving results.
  • The ability to work independently, use your initiative and take responsibility for the shop’s success.

Above all, we’re looking for someone with drive, ambition and a genuine desire to succeed.

Someone who enjoys a challenge, gets satisfaction from achieving targets and is always thinking about what could be done better.

As a Christian charity, we ask all staff to be sympathetic to and supportive of Link to Hope’s Christian aims and ethos.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary.
  • Annual performance-related bonus of up to £3,000, linked to agreed targets.
  • The opportunity to manage one of our larger charity shops and make a measurable impact.
  • The freedom to contribute ideas and initiatives to improve sales and shop performance.
  • A friendly, supportive organisation with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
  • The satisfaction of knowing that your commercial success directly helps vulnerable people in Eastern Europe.

Why join us?

At Link to Hope, we believe a successful charity shop can change lives.

We’re looking for someone who shares that belief and has the commercial drive to turn it into results.

You’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference, not just by managing a shop, but by helping it grow, increasing the income it generates and ultimately enabling us to support more people facing poverty and hardship.

If you’re a motivated, commercially minded retail professional who loves achieving results and wants your success to mean something more, we’d love to hear from you.
