Harrow Choral Society, 15th July 2023

A BARITONE who sang at the Coronation of King Charles III will be bringing his classical choir from London to Winchester next month

Sam Evans, performed with the Monteverdi at the Coronation last month and led an international media campaign to reverse the BBC’s decision to scrap the BBC Singers. Next up, the star and the Harrow Choral Society which he directs will be taking to the stage at the United Church in Jewry Street.

Based in Greater London, the choir’s more familiar venues include Watford Colosseum, Elliott Hall and the historic Speech Room of Harrow School.

Short tours to mainland Europe and away days within the UK in support of local charities, such as the forthcoming visit to Winchester, have become regular features of the choir’s calendar over the past 30 years.

However, this will be the group’s first excursion outside Harrow since the pandemic began in 2019. The Winchester performance, titled Music for a Summer evening, will last approximately an hour, starting at 5.30pm,

Music director Sam has selected a wide variety of music for the concert including pieces from composers such as Bruckner, Finzi, Haydn, Mozart and the acclaimed contemporary composer Paul Ayres.

The auditioned choir has around 70 singers and is led by its president Dame Emma Kirkby. For more information go to harrowchoral.org.uk/.

We would urge all Link to Hope supporters, friends and family who live near enough to Winchester to go along and support this fantastic event.  What a wonderful evening and the work of Link to Hope also benefits.
